Great Places to Visit For New Year's Celebrations

I love New Year's Eve. It's such a great night party, everybody in a good mood, waiting to welcome in the New Year. I usually like to try to travel somewhere new for New Year's Eve, instead of just staying home. We went to Cancun Mexico one year, but my husband ended up sick so we didn't go out and party for New Year's Eve. When I booked the trip, I thought "how great would that be to party in Cancun on New Year's Eve?"

Turns out it wasn't really all that great. I don't know if it is like that all the time, but the weather that year on New Years Eve was really not very nice. The daytime temperatures were not what I was expecting at all, and the days were overcast a lot. The good news about my husband being sick on New Year's Eve, is on New Year's Day was the best weather that we had the entire time we were there, and so I was able to enjoy my day on the beach without a hangover.

We also traveled to Hawaii one year. The weather was great there, just like I expected it to be. My problem with that trip, was that we traveled on New Year's Eve, and so we were so tired from traveling that day and we did not go out partying that night. Again though, on New Year's Day with no hangover, I enjoyed my day on the beach. And of course, since it was our first day there, we had another nine days to enjoy. So all in all, not a bad trip!

But I have to say that my favorite New Year's Eve trip, is the time that we spent New Year's Eve in Las Vegas Nevada. We arrived a couple of days before New Year's Eve, and so had plenty of time to rest up from our flight before New Year's Eve hit. And since we were there for a week, I had a few days after New Year's Eve to recuperate.

Las Vegas is a great place to party on New Year's Eve, they really know how to do a right. At about six o'clock in the evening, they start shutting down the strip. There was only a couple of places where you could even cross the strip in your vehicle. We headed down about seven o'clock in the evening, and the pedestrian traffic was fairly light at that time. I was afraid that I had booked a bum trip, and New Year's Eve was going to be a bust.

We wandered down to the end of the strip, and I went in and got myself one of those big tall drinks. I then proceeded to jazz it up with my own stash. That drink lasted me all night long and it was the only one I really needed. So with my drink in hand, we headed back down towards the center of the strip. It was now about eight o'clock in the evening or so, and people were starting to come out.

As we were walking down the strip, we noticed a group of 4 to 5 young men, pushing a wheelchair. It was getting fairly crowded at this point, so we couldn't really see clearly. But they stopped for a few moments, and as we got closer, we noticed that there was not a person in a wheelchair, but a keg. They had a keg strapped down to the wheelchair, and as their glasses got empty, they would just fill them up again. Good old American ingenuity.

As we headed toward the center of the strip, we noticed that the crowd was getting thicker and thicker. Now some people don't like crowds, but I am not one of them. I love a good crowd! By a good crowd, I mean lots of people in a good mood. I love it when we are packed so tightly together that you have to weave your way between people. And that's the way the crowd turned out to be on New Year's Eve in Las Vegas.

Now, my husband, he's not so much into crowds as I am. He would've preferred to watch the party from our room. But I guess it was my turn to choose the activity, because he just let me lead him right into the middle of that crowd. By the time midnight rolled around, we were squished together like sardines in a can. As soon as the countdown ended, I took pity upon him and led him out of the crowd.

I don't know how the casinos fared that night, because it seems as if everyone was on the street and not in the casinos. But I do know that because of the casinos there was a heckuva show on the strip that night. The Paris tower had a laser light show coming off of it. I think there was music playing, but I can't be sure. And at midnight, there was a really great fireworks show.

All in all, I would have to say that our New Year's Eve trip to Las Vegas was the best I've ever had for New Year's Eve. It was quite chilly, and I had to wear heavy coat, and I would much prefer the topics, but the party atmosphere was fabulous! I am still looking for that perfect place to spend New Year's Eve. For me, that would be party atmosphere like Las Vegas was, but the tropical weather that Hawaii has.
